Down below, we will help you choose the best flag option for your use.
1 ply flags are ideal for outdoor use. They are light enough to fly in light breeze and durable enough to fly under strong winds.
For all outdoor flag pole displays, we recommend 1 ply flags. Despite the common misconception, 1 ply flags will last longer outdoors, compared to 3 ply flags.
3 ply flags are very heavy and will deteriorate faster due to extra weight. Also 3 ply flags will need much stronger winds to fly properly.
The common problem with 1 ply flags is the back side mirror image text it appears backwards.
If you want the text on your flags to read correct on both sides, you should consider 3 ply flags.
However, please keep in mind the limitations of 3 ply flags as primarily indoor flags.
If you want the text to read correct from both sides, we have to print 3 ply flags.
3 ply flags are made by sewing 2 flags back to back with a light blocking material in between to prevent shadowing through. This way, the text will read correct from both sides but with a price.
These are heavy flags and will need strong winds to fly them.
We mostly recommend them strictly for indoors when displayed in a way that both sides are visible like hanging from a ceiling.
Or short term outdoor use like parades.
There is also satin flag material option for 3 ply flags. Satin flag material is famous with it’s presentation flag quality finish, just like the flags you see behind the president during public speeches.
Satin is primarily an indoor material and will wear out much faster when used outdoors.
Sometimes, our customers requests one sided satin flags for wall displays. In that case, there is no print on the back side of the flags. We just sew a blank fabric on the back side that faces the wall. We call them 2 ply flags. That 2 ply flag option is only available in the satin flag product categories.
